Thank you for your interest in the Raptor Butt Dolly, especially the improvements introduced in Version 2.
When we first created the Raptor Butt Dolly, our original goal was simple: to build a quiet, compact camera butt dolly that supports both camera and Steadicam operators.
From the first version, we learned a lot from real-world setups used by key grips and operators. Their feedback helped us refine the design so filmmakers can get the most flexibility out of Custom Easy products.
That is exactly why Version 2 was developed — with several small but meaningful upgrades.
Below are some of the most common questions we receive. This FAQ will help you better understand how the Raptor Butt Dolly works and how to choose the right version for your setup.
1 – What’s the difference between Raptor Butt Dolly V1 and V2?
Overall, there are no major changes to the core design. The key difference appears when you use the camera butt dolly as a Micro Dolly with 10″ Fat Wheels:

-
On V1, the handle is mounted deeper into the Butt Dolly Cheese Plate.

-
On V2, we moved the mounting point outward to give enough clearance for the wheels.

Due to a few production factors, Version 2 is not laser-engraved on the Cheese Plate. You can check your version using our guide here.

Similarly, because the handle was redesigned to be compatible with the Raptor Rickshaw 3, Rickshaw Lite, and Raptor Rickshaw Mini, the early batches of V2 do not include the wheel-mounting position on the handle. You can see more details here.

A quick rule:
If your handle does not support wheel mounting, you are using Raptor Butt Dolly V1.
2 – How to upgrade from V1 to V2?
Functionally, V1 and V2 are almost identical. Both versions share the same size, and most of accessories from V2 remain fully compatible with V1.

The only significant difference appears if you use your camera butt dolly for micro dolly work. In that case, you will need a custom Wheel Mounting Bracket, available for only $199.00.

With the Raptor Butt Dolly V2 equipped with the handle, filmmakers have enough clearance to add a 9″ or 18″ Mitchell Riser — something the V1 camera butt dolly does not provide.
