Raptor Magnet, the world’s first safety magnetic Mitchell quick release, continues to exceed our expectations as it is trusted in increasingly challenging, high-pressure film and live broadcast productions worldwide. From feature films to Netflix one-shots and live TV events, Raptor Magnet has proven its reliability, safety, and speed in real-world conditions.
In this article, we’ll take you behind the scenes to explore how magnetic Mitchell quick release systems like Raptor Magnet unlock creative freedom while maintaining absolute safety on set.
From One to Two Raptor Magnets in a Single Shot
Originally, Raptor Magnet was designed for use with cranes, booms, and similar setups requiring fast, secure camera transitions. However, depending on the director’s vision, this magnetic quick release system can be rigged into a wide variety of complex configurations.
Below are two standout setups used in the Vietnamese feature film “Cục Vàng của Ngoại”, which premiered in October 2025.
Scene 1: The Opening One-Shot
The director’s goal was to introduce the entire story in the most concise and immersive way possible — one continuous shot, with no cuts, no resets, and no additional exposition.
The shot:
- Begins in the grandmother’s bedroom (directly tied to the film’s title)
- Moves into the daughter’s room
- Transitions behind the daughter and is passed down to the ground floor using the first Raptor Magnet
- Travels back toward the front door to reveal the living room
- Exits the house and seamlessly connects to a crane via the second Raptor Magnet
- Rises to reveal the full exterior of the house
- Ends by returning back into the grandmother’s room
This entire sequence was made possible thanks to the magnetic Mitchell quick release, allowing ultra-fast, secure handoffs between operators, handheld rigs, and crane systems — without compromising safety.
Scene 2: The Car Accident Sequence
This is a powerful, emotionally driven scene depicting a serious car accident caused by distracted driving. Rather than showing the accident directly, the director chose to focus on the emotional impact inside the vehicle.
The gimbal camera:
- Starts in front of the windshield
- Moves inside the car
- Travels through the side window to capture the actors’ reactions
Because the film has not yet been released on digital platforms, only selected behind-the-scenes footage published by the filmmakers can be shared at this time.
