Horizontal Sled Docking Bracket

Solving the Challenges of Long Post Steadicam Operation

SteadiHan shares his experience:

“I often struggled with using a super post on the ARRI Trinity 2 while changing lenses. The DoP also had issues positioning lights when the frame was too high. That’s why I designed the Horizontal Docking Bracket, providing a more practical solution for operators like me.”

Features and Compatibility

This custom horizontal sled docking bracket allows for flexible mounting options, supporting:

5/8” baby pin for universal stands
Dual 48-51mm docking clamps

SteadiHan’s setup integrates a custom stand modified with a Butt Dolly Cheese Plate and Slider End Bracket—both crafted by our team. However, this Steadicam docking bracket is universally compatible with any robust stand featuring a 5/8″ baby pin or a Steadicam stand mounted on a Custom Steadicam Cart.

Addressing Common Concerns

Filmmaker Bryan Trieb raised an important question:

“Doesn’t docking this way take up a lot of space and increase the risk of crew members accidentally hitting it? Also, do you leave power on the head while changing lenses?”

SteadiHan’s response:

“When using a super post, the set is naturally spacious, and an AC is always present to assist. You can’t leave it unattended, but you can turn off the engine while the AC holds the camera tail to swap lenses. It’s much easier than a focus puller climbing a 2-meter ladder!”

ARRI Trinity to Male Mitchell Adapter

Beyond Steadicam operation, SteadiHan also utilizes the ARRI Trinity on Mitchell-based cinema rigs. That’s why we developed the ARRI Trinity to Male Mitchell Adapter, allowing filmmakers to mount the ARRI stabilizer on dollies, cranes, and jibs, seamlessly transitioning from overslung to underslung modes.

Steadicam Cart – A Versatile On-Set Companion

SteadiHan relies on his Steadicam Cart to handle multiple tasks during a long shoot day, including:

Transporting a fully rigged Steadicam between locations
Serving as a standby station for resting between takes
Providing a stable balancing setup

In his current rig, SteadiHan uses the Mini Cheese Plate from Raptor Rickshaw Mini, but he suggests upgrading to the Raptor Rickshaw 3 Cheese Plate for even greater versatility.
